Human Centred Artificial Intelligence Master (HCAIM)

Human Centred Artificial Intelligence Master (HCAIM)

The word HCAIM

The Human Centred Artificial Intelligence Master (HCAIM) is a higher education programme funded by the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which was developed by a Consortium of three excellence centres, three SMEs and four Universities. The partnership brings together professionals from the world of academia and companies with considerable records of interest in the human-centered and ethical aspects of AI.

Aspiring Master students will be able to register for the Master in one of the 4 Universities:

HCAIM is geared toward training professionals to become social value-oriented AI architects who pay special attention to the responsible application of artificial intelligence.

Aims and objectives

How do we ensure that Artificial Intelligence is used for the common good?

In aiming to create a human-centred masters programme in AI, the HCAIM Consortium has followed the definition provided by the European Commission's High-level expert group on artificial intelligence (HLEG)

“The human-centric approach to AI strives to ensure that human values are central to how AI systems are developed, deployed, used, and monitored, by ensuring respect for fundamental rights.”

To meet the requirements of this definition, the programme covers the technical, ethical, and practical elements of AI, designed around the three phases of the MLOps lifecycle – development, deployment, and maintenance of machine learning models. This produced three core modules in alignment with MLOps phases: Modelling (Module A),  Deployment (Module B), and Evaluation (Module C)

We have added a fourth module, Graduation (Module D), to enable students to show that they can independently solve challenges proposed by the industry based on current needs and requirements related to human-centred AI.

Learning outcomes

The MSc Programme has been built to train professionals in the field as socially-responsible and ethically aware AI architects. In particular,  these architects pay attention to the responsible application of AI, in line with the vision of the European Union.

More information and requirements

The programme begins every year in September. Application deadlines vary depending on the University. For more information on application deadlines, visit the individual university websites.

The minimum entry requirement for standard entrants to the programme is a 2:2 (GPA 2.5 or equivalent), in a Bachelor of Science in Computing (Level 8) or a cognate discipline or equivalent.
