Winter School 2025: Discovering the unknown: AI in healthcare

The Winter School Discovering the Unknown: AI in Healthcare took place from 15–19 December 2025 at the University of Pavia in Italy.

This international initiative, organised by the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Pavia, combined virtual learning with in-person activities in Pavia. The programme aimed to provide students and professionals with foundational and practical knowledge on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Explainable and Trustworthy AI (XAI), in the healthcare sector.

Agenda and topics

A panel of international experts will deliver lectures, workshops, and roundtables on key themes such as:

• AI and data mining in healthcare management
• Explainable and trustworthy AI
• Ethics and AI
• Digital healthcare leadership
• Technology-enhanced learning and decision-making in healthcare

During the in-person sessions in Pavia, participants took part in interactive workshops, roundtables, and group project work designed to consolidate their learning and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

Synergies and collaboration with DIGI-ME

This Winter School is co-founded and part of the European project Digital Skills for Transformative Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, which is committed to educating a new generation of European leaders, equipping them with the skills to leverage digital tools and processes for transformative innovation in business and management. Its mission is to build and sustain a dynamic community of innovators ready to tackle future challenges across Europe’s key sectors.

Its objectives are:

• To deliver a set of highly personalized educational and training programmes for future digital talents responding to actual and emerging skills needs
• To develop a learning platform to manage personalized study plans
• To develop a learning platform of advanced contents on digital skills for teachers, students and professionals to deliver the educational offers
• To establish a sustainable network of HEIs, research centers, SMEs and Technological Parks
• To attract qualified teaching staff and train the trainers in digital skills
• To build a digital ecosystem for transformative innovation

By connecting with DIGI ME, the “Discovering the Unknown: AI in Healthcare” Winter School contributes to the creation of a European ecosystem of knowledge exchange, promoting digital innovation and cross-sectoral cooperation.
