The topic Advanced Digital Skills for AI Uptake in Health under the Digital Europe Programme’s “Advanced Digital Skills” call addresses the need for specialised digital skills( especially in AI) in the healthcare sector. Aligned with EU priorities, it aims to close the skills gap by supporting advanced training programmes co-designed with academia, industry, and healthcare stakeholders. By strengthening the AI-readiness of the healthcare workforce, it contributes to improved efficiency, innovation, and patient outcomes across European health systems.

Expected Outcome

  • Initiatives implemented for the target audience to gather knowledge on learning needs related to AI uptake in health.

  • Training programmes in the area of advanced digital skills for AI uptake in health, designed jointly by higher education institutions, VET providers, research organisations, businesses and other stakeholders in digital health, in collaboration with the network of AI-powered advanced screening centres.

  • Training catalogue with detailed course planning and a regularly updated timetable. Final analysis of the completed training and the achievement level reached in improved skills.

  • A landing page integrated into the Digital Skills and Jobs Platform, showcasing existing and forthcoming education and training initiatives and promoting training offers to the relevant audience.

Scope

This topic aims to expand education and training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for healthcare through collaboration between higher education institutions, training providers, research organisations and industry. The content should align with key EU policy developments, notably the AI Strategy and the European Health Data Space, and cover both technological advances and practical applications of AI and digital health technologies.

The training are designed for a broad audience, including healthcare professionals, as well as data scientists, programmers, and software developers working in the healthcare sector. They should be adapted to different levels of expertise, with varying depth and technical complexity, and delivered in cooperation with the European network of AI-powered advanced screening centres. Courses are expected to be offered at least quarterly, available in English and other EU languages, and regularly updated based on participants’ needs and feedback.
