EPCC at the University of Edinburgh Created byGalina MISHEVA|Updated07 September 2022EPCC, formerly the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre, is a supercomputing centre based at the University of Edinburgh. The EPCC was established in 1990 as a centre of excellence in parallel computing as an initiative to support the research and academic activities of the Departments of Physics and Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. The University has supported high performance computing (HPC) services since 1982. As of 2013, through EPCC, it supports the United Kingdom's national high-end computing system, ARCHER (Advanced Research Computing High End Resource), and the UK Research Data Facility (UK-RDF). Today, EPCC undertakes a wide range of activities including: software development, consultation and advice for industry and academia, HPC research, and training and education. The centre offers two masters programmes: one in HPC, and one in HPC and its intersection with data science. The centre also offers advanced training programmes, and facilitates research, contract work and industrial affiliation.
