Small Grants for Grassroots Coding Projects as part of EU Code Week (International Call)

Context

This international funding stream extends the Grants for Grassroots programme across Europe, particularly to countries lacking an established national EU Code Week hub. It's part of the EU’s Code4Europe and Digital Europe Programme, aiming to foster scalable and community-based coding education. 

Goals

• Establish and support new coordinated hubs offering local-level support to educators
• Develop innovative, scalable coding and computational-thinking initiatives
• Promote large-scale local coding events integrating schools, NGOs, and public institutions
• Foster community engagement and stakeholder collaboration
• Serve as a local focal point for disseminating EU Code Week resources, campaigns, and ambassador support
• Support sustainability via local fundraising efforts

• Private organisations and coding clubs
• Associations specialized in coding and computational thinking 

Eligibility Criteria  

Applicants must operate in one of the selected countries without a current dedicated EU Code Week hub, or regionally represented by a hub outside the country:

• Eligible countries: Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia 

Legal entities like schools, NGOs, coding clubs, libraries, and private associations can apply

Funding

• Total Budget: €30,000
• Grant Size: €5,000–€10,000 per successful project
• Payment Terms: 50% advance upon contract; 50% on final report approval 

Eligible Costs 

All direct costs are eligible, excluding staff salaries. External expertise, consultants, facilitators are allowed (max 20% of total budget). Costs must be verifiable with invoices and comply with sound financial management

Timeline

• Call Opened: 7 July 2025
• Deadline for Applications: 7 September 2025 (23:59 CET)
• Award Notification: by 15 September 2025
• Project Duration: 1 October 2025 – 30 June 2026 

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must commit to delivering during the project:
1.    ≥10 community events or capacity-building workshops (online, in-person, hybrid)
2.    1 local hackathon and 1 large-scale flagship event with multiple stakeholders
3.    A communication/outreach campaign to promote participation and Code Week
4.    Support/training/mentoring to existing or new community of ≥10 educators
5.    Submission of a final report detailing activities, outcomes, learnings, and scaling recommendations
