VET Toolkit for Tackling Early Leaving

The VET Toolkit for Tackling Early Leaving is a database, accessible through the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop). The database offers a variety of learning resources tailored to different contexts with the aim of supporting policymakers, public institutions, private companies and training providers from the formal education sector and the vocational education and training (VET) sector. The aim of the Toolkit is to help young people at risk of becoming early school leavers remain in education and training and gain a qualification for their skills, and helping early leavers to re-enter the world of education and training and subsequently, the labour market.
The database includes statistics and data on early leaving for 34 different countries, including policy recommendations and analysis on trends central to lifelong learning and the development of 21st century skills. The aim of the database and toolkit is to provide relevant information to stakeholders throughout the education sector and enhance overall actions in the European training landscape to tackle early leaving. With more than 50 good practices and 80 publications, the database offers research, guidance and a variety of initiatives that have the potential to be replicated in other contexts and environments throughout Europe. Stakeholders and organisations can also submit good practices and tools on digital skills in the context of vocational education and training, and Cedefop's database aims to also strengthen stakeholder-to-stakeholder cooperation in the design and development of activities on skills. The good practices in tackling early leaving from education cover Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom.
In addition, the VET Toolkit for Tackling Early Leaving includes: examples of 'quick wins' (i.e. activities that have the potential to tackle early leaving whilst using relatively simple resources) and analysed successful approaches, toolkits and tools to tackle early leaving. Publications in the database include actions launched on local, regional, national and European level and were selected as part of Cedefop's study Leaving education early: putting vocational education and training centre stage.
