In her speech introducing the EU Cyber Solidarity Act and Cybersecurity Skills Academy, Margrethe Vestager, executive vice president of the European Commission, highlighted the critical importance of cybersecurity, stating, “Cybersecurity is a must-have. It is essential to protect our societies, our citizens, and our economy.” Currently, Europe faces a shortage of nearly 1 million cybersecurity professionals (approximately 883,000), while the global demand for cyber experts is projected to reach 4 million soon.
On 31 October 2024, for the 7th episode of the Digital Skills Talks together with Cybersecurity in focus: Insights from ENISA and industry leaders, together with Dimitra Liveri, Team Leader for Awareness Raising and Education at ENISA, and Argyro Chatzoopoulou, Senior Consultant (Policy) and Co-founder of APIROPLUS Solutions Ltd. we discussed: What is Europe doing to address this pressing issue? How are various initiatives bridging the cybersecurity skills gap across the continent?
In this 30-minute live interview, we explored European initiatives that raise awareness about digital skills and cybersecurity practices for businesses and individuals, such as European Cybersecurity Month. We'll also explore how projects like REWIRE are making strides in addressing the skills gap and shortages in the cybersecurity sector. Together with our speakers, we discussed the impact of EU policies on the cybersecurity landscape, the in-demand digital skills, how to equip workers with essential skills for managing security risks related to emerging technologies, and best practices for staying safe online.
