MATRIX meets Luxchat - Hackathon

This November, Luxembourg will host an event dedicated to digital innovation: the “Matrix meets Luxchat” Hackathon, organised as part of the Luxembourg Internet Days 2025. It is a unique opportunity to create, experiment and push the boundaries of instant messaging and digital interactions while playing a key role in Luxembourg’s digital future.

Where and when?

  • Dates: 18-19 November 2025
  • Location: Chamber of Commerce (room F01), Luxembour
  • The launch will take place at 8.15 a.m. on 18 November, and the final presentations will take place on the afternoon of 19 November.
  • Please note: The Chamber of Commerce building will be closed overnight. If your team plans to schedule all night, consider arranging an alternative workspace.

The Challenge

You will join 20 to 40 developersdividedintomultidisciplinary teams to evolve the messaging platforms Luxchat (public sector) and Luxchat4Pro (private sector), both based on the Matrix protocol.

For 30 intensive hours (not counting pitches), your mission will be to design useful, creative and innovative integrations and improvements. Some possible ways forward:

  • Bots: AI chatbots, external notifications, mini-games, etc.
  • Extensions: accessibility, themes, user interface improvements
  • Infrastructure: Better resource management, analytics, automated deployment
  • Services for citizens: service bots to facilitate communication between businesses and customers
  • API integrations: connect Luxchat4Pro to other IT systems

At the end of the hackathon, each team will present a 10-minute pitch in English to a jury of Matrix and Luxembourg tech experts.

Who can participate?

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Teams of 1 to 5 members (maximum 8 teams in total)
  • Multidisciplinary teams are encouraged (developers, designers, business profiles, etc.)
  • Have a Luxchat account (preferably linked to a Luxembourg number). If you do not have one yet, follow the instructions to get a LuxID and request access.
  • Luxchat will also be the main communication platform during the event.
