Programme structure

The BSc in Speech and Language Therapy is a four-year undergraduate programme combining academic study with practice-based learning, including a minimum of 450 hours of supervised clinical placement across hospitals, community services, schools, and rehabilitation settings.

  • In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge in anatomy and physiology, human development, linguistics, phonetics, psychology, and sociology, supporting understanding of communication and swallowing.
  • Across Years 2–4, students progress to specialised study in speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders across the lifespan, while developing clinical reasoning, communication, and evidence-based practice skills.

The programme incorporates interprofessional learning, leadership in healthcare, and community engagement, alongside completion of a research project. It aims to develop graduates with the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competencies required to assess and support individuals with communication and swallowing disorders, using evidence-based and person-centred approaches across diverse healthcare settings.
