Programme structure

  • Year 1: Foundations in biomedical sciences, including Human Anatomy and Physiology, Health Informatics, Exercise and Health Fitness, and an Introduction to Physiotherapy Skills.
  • Year 2: Focus on assessment and management of disability, with modules in respiratory, musculoskeletal, and neurological physiotherapy. Introduction to research, evidence-based practice, and sociological aspects of health and healthcare.
  • Year 3: Advanced physiotherapy practice, developing clinical, analytical, and interpersonal skills to manage complex cases. Includes study of research methodology.
  • Year 4: Case-based and interdisciplinary learning, integrating clinical knowledge through complex scenarios. Completion of a final year research project and advanced practice education placements.

Objective

To equip graduates with the clinical, analytical, and professional skills required for modern physiotherapy practice, including evidence-based approaches, digital health tools, and multidisciplinary care.

Eligible students

Eligible students include school leavers and applicants who meet the University of Limerick’s entry requirements for undergraduate programmes, with an interest in healthcare, human science, and physiotherapy.  See programme application webpage for full list of Entry Requirements.

Duration The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy is a four-year degree programme which includes a total of 31 weeks of clinical practice in the last two years of the programme. (297 ECTS)
