More than 300 young people in Latvia participate in the Code4Europe supported “Riga Puzzle Day”
This year, more than 300 young people from Riga secondary schools took part in the Code4Europe-supported event “Riga Puzzle Day”. Code4Europe project, implemented in Latvia by Latvian Information and communications technology association (LIKTA), supports events that foster students’ digital literacy and the development of logical thinking. “Riga Puzzle Day”, organized in Latvia for the third year by Riga Business School in cooperation with partners, is a clear example of a high-quality educational activity focused on developing modern skills in the field of youth digital competencies.
The Challenge: Logic Tasks Adapted from Harvard Methodology
The logic challenge game “Riga Puzzle Day” took place on November 7 and was attended by 320 students from grades 11 and 12 of Riga’s general education schools. The best results among 109 competing teams were achieved by students from Riga State Gymnasium No. 1, followed by a team from Riga Secondary School No. 22. Over the course of three hours, students competed in solving 10 logic and knowledge-based tasks adapted from a methodology developed by prestigious Harvard University. The teams demonstrated their problem-solving abilities, collaboration skills, and strategic thinking.

Summarising the results, the students from Riga State Gymnasium No. 1 performed best in the logic tasks — the team “Melnā maģija” won 1st place and a €900 cash prize from the Riga Municipality, while the team “Alfa, beta un epsilons” placed 2nd and received a €600 cash prize. 3rd place went to “Kurantov” from Riga Secondary School No. 22, who received a €300 cash prize. The winners also received special prizes prepared by the Code4Europe project.
LIKTA Engagement: Discussing Digital Education Needs
During the event, LIKTA organised a “Code Week” information stand, where teachers and students from various Riga schools actively engaged with the opportunities offered by the project. Obtained information about Europe-wide coding initiatives. This direct communication provided valuable input for LIKTA and Code4Europe project work, helping better understand the needs of the education sector and strengthening cooperation with the school community.
