Modern Robotics

The Modern Robotics course offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain in-depth knowledge of the latest advancements in robotics systems. This fully funded course is part of the Reboot Skills project, funded by the Digital Europe Program, and covers essential topics such as modeling, simulation, sensor fusion, localization, and control of modern robotics systems.
Course overview
The course is structured into three distinct specialization tracks, allowing participants to dive deep into their area of interest. The first track, Localization, will take place at Flanders Make in Belgium. This hands-on, in-person course will equip participants with practical skills necessary for identifying and tracking positions in robotic applications. The second track, Sensor Fusion and Robot Control, is offered by Luleå University of Technology in Sweden. This online recorded course will teach participants how to integrate data from various sensors to facilitate accurate decision-making in robotic systems. The third track, Simulation and Control of Marine & Airborne Craft, is hosted by the University of Limerick in Ireland. This online and live course requires a basic understanding of linear algebra and differential equations, focusing on the principles of robotics system design and control techniques.
Course schedule and structure
The course will kick off on 1 October with an introduction and overview of robotics, setting the foundation for the upcoming sessions. The course schedule is as follows:
- 1 October: Introduction and Overview to Robotics
- 8 October: Introduction to Motion in Robotic Systems: Targeting, Movement, Coordinate Systems, Transformation Chains & Basic Linear Algebra
- 15 October: Coordinate Systems for Trajectory Control in Drones & Underwater Craft: 3D Rotations & Quaternions
- 29 October: Modelling & Simulation Examples Using Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles (UAVs)
- 5 November: Control and Live Demo
This structure provides participants with a comprehensive learning experience, gradually building on concepts and culminating in practical applications.
Who should attend?
This course is designed for engineers and technicians seeking to enhance their skills in robotics, as well as students and professionals aspiring to build a career in this dynamic field. With no prerequisites for the courses in Belgium and Sweden, and only a basic understanding of linear algebra and differential equations required for the Ireland course, this training program is accessible to a wide range of participants. Don't miss this chance to deepen your knowledge and expertise in modern robotics and contribute to shaping the future of technology!
About Reboot Skills Project
The course is developed under the framework of the EU-funded REBOOT SKILLS project, an initiative designed to enhance the digital expertise of professionals in the European manufacturing sector, addressing the digital skills gap exposed by rapid digitization and the COVID-19 pandemic. Supported by the Digital Europe program, it collaborates with academia, research, and industry to offer accessible training in four key areas: Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Robotics, and Cybersecurity.
