Girls in Digital (GID) is an initiative by WIDE (Women in Digital Empowerment) and the Luxembourgish Ministry of the Equality, which aims to support young people, and especially girls, to explore the digital opportunities that are opening up every day.

GID is an online database, comprising of numerous resources in key disciplines for the future (STEM, AI, coding, programming, etc).

About Girls in Digital

In the broad field of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), an increasing number of innovations are based on the development of new technologies around digital domains. The result? A large number of job openings for everyone. But to unlock and seize all the opportunities offered by digital domains, it is essential to have a good knowledge of digital. The same can be observed when we look at popular (and gaining popularity) fields, like software, coding and AI.

Biases still prevail too, with youngsters ending up discouraged from careers in ICT. According to Eurostat just 14% of ICT experts working in the field in Luxembourg are women. The GID platform makes access to information on digital topics (and careers) more accessible to all.

About Girls in Digital

Girls in Digital is a platform with resources dedicated to the promotion and development of digital skills among women and girls. It stands out for its commitment to closing the gender gap in technology and digital by offering a multitude of resources and learning opportunities.

Main resources from Girls in Digital - learning through play

GID offers a variety of online courses, games, fun workshops, and content designed to learn about technology in general and improve skills in programming, cybersecurity, data science, and many other fields. Some of the resources on the platform include:

  • Various STEM-focused quizzes: a general one to help girls and women access where they stand in relation to digital; or a Quiz App that takes learners through all they need to know about STEM, and makes learning fun.
  • Math & Science Tutor:here, girls and women can learn problem-solving techniques, watch instructional videos on the basics of STEM fields, and get step-by-step guidance.
  • Brilliant:an online resource for an immersive and highly-engaging learning experience that teaches participants how to problem-solve in a very interactive way.

Why this resource?

With a focus on inclusiveness and accessibility, Girls in Digital creates a supportive environment where girls can learn the skills needed to succeed in the digital sector. The platform also features inspiring testimonials from women working in digital and STEM, mentorships and support networks to encourage participants to pursue careers in tech.

Girlsindigital.lu lists in particular the various studies and schools of secondary and higher education related to digital and IT available in Luxembourg. It also lists the training organisations and associations (outside schools) that make it possible to acquire new IT skills through workshops and activities for the youngest but also for adults.
