An explanatory video by the EU-funded AI4GOV project dives into the specifics of the EU AI Act: and what it means in practice for people, governments, and businesses alike.

Check it out and get to know the forward-looking legislation that is shaping a digital, safe, and secure Europe.

About this resource

The European AI Act has been making waves ever since it was first proposed as an idea back in 2021. Even before that, in 2020, the European Commission set up the HLEG (high-level expert group), gathering input from stakeholders, industry, academia and the main European actors involved in AI development and deployment. In 2024, it was adopted by the European Parliament and officially came into force. The AI Act essentially sets a global precedent for a comprehensive legal framework to ensure AI products actually bring value to society and are built with ethics in mind, rather than the other way round.

What you can expect to find

The video resource is a great introduction to the AI Act: its criteria, main elements, and sections. It will give you a good introduction to the legislation - and why it is so important. You will also learn more about how AI systems are classified according to the AI Act, and how it is being implemented throughout Europe.
