Skills for the Green and Digital Transitions - Panel Discussion

Event location
Brüsszel, Belgium

Date: 6 March 2024, 15:30-17:00 CET.

Place: COMET Louise (Brussels) and online.

Competition to achieve climate neutrality will significantly transform the European labour market, affecting employment and skills needs in all sectors. To maintain a leading position in this race, Europe needs a skilled workforce that can maximise synergies between the green and digital transitions and support the development and deployment of net-zero technologies by sector. In order to promote a just change, it is necessary to address the growing labour shortages in sectors that are vital to the twin transition and to reduce unemployment starting to decline in carbon-intensive sectors.

The Digital4Sustainability project, funded under the Erasmus+ programme, will focus on reskilling and upskilling the European workforce, developing a strategy and education programme that are in line with its evolving needs.

A public panel will be organised at the Digital4Sustainability kick-off meeting to explore the consequences of the twin transitions in the labour market. The event will take place in hybrid format on 6 March 2024, from 15:30 to 16:45 CET. This event will address new roles in the sustainable ICT sector and European industry, as well as strategies to prepare and reskill the workforce.

Panellists:

  • Francesca Borgonovi ( PhD, Head of Skills Analysis Unit, OECD Skills Centre)
  • Joachim Schwerin (PhD, High Economic Adviser, DG GROW, European Commission)
  • Ilias Iakovidis (PhD, Adviser on Digital aspects of the Green Transition, DG CONNECT, European Commission)
  • Déborah Goll (Coordinator of the Digital4Sustainability project, European DIGITAL SME Alliance)

The panel is moderated by Antonio Grasso (Director of Public Affairs, European DIGITAL SME Alliance).
