eAward

On October 1, 2024, Report Verlag and T-Systems hosted the event at the T-Center in Vienna, where outstanding digitalization projects in business and administration were recognized. Among the prominent winners in the "Services and Processes" category were the eAusweise app and the eAusweis Check from the Federal Chancellery in collaboration with the Federal Computing Center (Bundesrechenzentrum GmbH). The Austrian project "eAusweise" won the prestigious eAward 2024 in the "Services and Processes" category.

Digital IDs for Everyday Use

With the eAusweise app, citizens can easily present documents such as their driver's license, vehicle registration, and digital identification via smartphone. To use the app, citizens need a fully functional ID Austria. Once they have this, they can activate the eAusweise app via the Digital Office app.

For those not using the eAusweise app, digital IDs can be shown with the eAusweis Check app. This app requires no registration or ID Austria and can be used anonymously and free of charge. Here’s how it works: When citizens want to identify themselves digitally, they show their ID or certification in the form of temporary QR codes. These QR codes contain the relevant ID data. The person who needs to verify this data, such as a traffic officer, scans the QR code and can check necessary information like identity, age, or driver’s license data on their smartphone. These QR codes are valid only briefly, adding an extra layer of security.

Since its launch in 2022, the app has seen over 1.5 million downloads. The range of services continues to expand, and the eAusweise app is available in both the Apple and Android app stores.
