EU Code Week grants support 6 best initiatives in Latvia

In November 2025, the Latvian Information and communications technology association (LIKTA), within the framework of the Code4Europe project, announced applications for the second round of the EU Code Week support grant program. A total of 21 applications were received, of which 16 were found to comply with the requirements of the regulations. The submitted initiatives include innovative solutions to promote the development of digital skills, programming and algorithmic thinking throughout Latvia, including in Alūksne, Bauska, Nīca, Dobele, Durbe, Liepāja, Ludza, Ogre, Rēzekne, Riga, Tukums, Vecpiebalga and Ventspils.

The main objectives of the support program are:

  • To promote the development and implementation of innovative and sustainable programming and digital skills activities.

  • To support initiatives that integrate programming into educational processes and foster engagement.

  • To facilitate community participation and cooperation among various organizations.

  • To evaluate projects that reduce gender disparities and promote diversity in STEAM education.

The support grant application evaluation commission has decided to support 6 inspiring local digital skills projects:

  • RTU Riga Business School “AI Day – Latvia” project to ensure: accessible and internationally validated AI teaching materials; the professional development of teachers, including the training of ambassadors and workshops for teachers on the use of AI Day teaching materials; active and practical involvement of students in a creative, project-based learning process. #MIday #FutureSelect #ArMIeasier. #AIDay #FutureClass #EasierWithAI

  • Ventspils Digital Center project “Girls are coding” aims to inspire girls to explore coding and technology as a creative and practical tool to shape change, while strengthening their confidence in their abilities in the digital environment. #GirlsCode #GirlsCan

  • Atis Kronvalds Durbe Primary School Support Society’s project "The First Steps of Young Programmers in the Digital World" aims to implement three levels of training: professional development of teachers; development of teaching materials and training of learners; transfer of knowledge and experience to teachers of the South Kurzeme region and other interested parties across Latvia. #YoungProgrammers #DigitalSkills

  • Tukums Municipality Zemgale Secondary School project “Code connects generations – coding and robotics for the whole community” with the aim of promoting the development of coding, robotics and digital skills in different age groups. #robotics #CodeConnectsGenerations

  • Dobele 1st Secondary School project “Lego Education Spike Essential learning for students and teachers” aims to raise awareness of the basics of programming and engineering thinking through practical learning of algorithms, sequences, cycles and conditions. #robotics #programming

  • Alūksne Children and Youth Center project “Development of digital skills using robotics” aims to of ensure high-quality classes by promoting students’ algorithmic thinking, digital skills and problem-solving skills. #digitalskills #robotics #programming

All organizations will receive support up to 2500 euros (including taxes).
