The first round of EU Code Week grants supported the best initiatives in Latvia

In April, the Latvian Association of Information and Communication Technology (LIKTA), within the framework of the Code4Europe project, announced applications for the EU Code Week support grant program. Organizations from across Latvia were invited to apply for support grants to implement initiatives for the development of digital skills, programming, and algorithmic thinking throughout Latvia.
The main objectives of the support program are:
- To promote the development and implementation of innovative and sustainable programming and digital skills activities.
- To support initiatives that integrate programming into educational processes and foster engagement.
- To facilitate community participation and cooperation among various organizations.
- To evaluate projects that reduce gender disparities and promote diversity in STEAM education.
The support grant application evaluation commission has decided to support 6 inspiring local digital skills projects:
- Alūksne preschool educational institution "Sprīdītis" project "Digital Literacy in Preschool Age" aims to engage, inform, and educate participants about how robots can be used in the learning process (or outside of it) to strengthen or improve programming fundamentals in preschool age. #digital skills #programminginpreschool
- "Datorium" project "Pygirls – programming course for girls aged 14-19" aims to implement a four-month online Python programming course to encourage girls' interest in the technology field. #pygirls #datorium #python #girlscancode #womeninstem
- Information Technology Distance Learning High School's project "Artificial Intelligence Summer School for Youth aged 15-17" aims to implement an online summer school to foster young people's understanding of the meaningful and responsible use of artificial intelligence tools. #AI #MI #digital skills #technology
- Liepāja Education Department Science and Education Innovation Centre's project "LEGO Robotics/Programming Learning for Teachers who will Train Children" aims to acquire modern tablets to be used with LEGO robotics kits, implementing a teacher training cycle that will allow this knowledge and these skills to reach children. #legorobotics #programming #digital skills
- Nīca preschool educational institution "Spārīte" project "Mobile, Digital STEM Laboratory" aims to implement mobile digital STEM lessons for preschool and primary school students, as well as to present various digital tools. #digital skills #southkurzeme #Sparite
- Riga State Classical Gymnasium's project "CodeStars" aims to encourage students' interest in programming, develop algorithmic thinking, and creative skills using the Scratch programming environment. #digital skills #participationandcooperation #STEAMeducation
All organizations will receive support up to 1500 euros (including taxes).
