Setting priorities for Digital skills activities in Latvia
December 20th Latvian Digital Skills Coalition Partners gathered for a seminar to review main activities in 2022 and share digital skills priorities for 2023. The seminar was organised by the Latvian Information and Communication Technology Association (LIKTA).
At the event, the results of the WOMEN4IT project in Latvia and Europe, implemented by LIKTA in cooperation with the State Employment Agency (NVA), were presented. As part of the project, more than 900 young women were trained in 8 digital job profiles. The materials and methodologies developed in the project are available on the digitaljobs.women4it.eu platform.
Liene Priede, head of the Digital Skills Promotion Projects Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (VARAM), informed about the ongoing and planned digital skills development activities in Latvia. During 2022, within the framework of the project "Public administration information and communication technology architecture management system - 2nd round", 2,005 persons have become as the Digital Leaders and they further educated 21,657 persons.
Gunta Arāja, deputy director of the Structural Funds Department of the Ministry of Education and Science in the field of vocational education and lifelong learning development, informed on various initiatives in the field of education in 2023, highlighting the planned activities and cooperation opportunities for the development of all levels digital skills.
Evita Simsone, director of the NVA, shared statistics on citizens requirements for digital skills training. Employed and unemployed persons are offered to use the opportunities develop their competences through non-formal and vocational training, as well as access to different online course platforms for digital skills development. In 2022, more than 5000 customers took advantage of various options.
At the closing of the event, LIKTA board member Māra Jākobsone emphasized the following year's priorities in the field of digital skills and invited everyone to share their initiatives using the Latvian National Coalition platform.
Representatives of state and municipal institutions, educational institutions, companies, non-governmental organizations and regional learning centres, including the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, the Centre of Culture Information Systems, the University of Latvia, the Baltic Computer Academy, IF Latvia, FITA, Zemgale Region Human Resource and Competences Development Centre and Ventspils Digital Centre participated in the seminar in person and online.
