MAI4CAREU - Machine Learning for Graphics and Computer Vision - Character Animation

The University of Cyprus's Master programme in Artificial Intelligence 4 Careers in Europe (MAI4CAREU) includes MAI645 - Machine Learning for Graphics and Computer Vision, with lectures delivered by the CYENS Centre of Excellence.
Learning outcomes
This lecture focuses on character animation, starting with motion capture techniques, pose representation, and the basics of animation. Students will explore human pose estimation and activity recognition, including keypoint detection and tracking for identifying human joints in images and videos. The session covers skeleton-based action recognition, using keypoints to classify human actions, and examines applications in sports, healthcare, and entertainment.
Students will also learn about deep motion analysis and synthesis, focusing on creating realistic character movements. The module includes deep reinforcement learning for animation control, allowing the development of advanced, physics-based animations that interact with dynamic environments.
The course also covers:
- Motion Capture Techniques and Pose Representation
- Human Pose Estimation and Keypoint Tracking
- Skeleton-Based Action Recognition
- Applications in Sports, Healthcare, and Entertainment
- Deep Motion Analysis and Synthesis
- Deep Reinforcement Learning for Animation Control
The course incorporates practical examples and hands-on projects to reinforce learning.
