Ethical Hacking Basics (CyberSuite)
This beginner-level course introduces the core principles, methodologies, and tools used in ethical hacking to secure systems and networks. Designed for learners starting their journey in cybersecurity, the course combines theoretical foundations with practical exposure in a controlled lab environment. The course is part of the CyberSuite project - funded under the DIGITAL Europe Programme of the European Union - which aims to bridge market gaps by establishing an easily accessible marketplace for cybersecurity services tailored to SMEs, fostering simplicity and accessibility in high-level security, privacy, and trust.
About this course
Participants explore ethical hacking concepts, legal considerations, and responsible disclosure practices before progressing into reconnaissance techniques such as footprinting, network scanning, and OSINT tools. The course then introduces basic exploitation techniques including password cracking and web application attacks using frameworks such as Metasploit and Burp Suite.
Learning outcomes
Learners also examine post-exploitation techniques, maintaining access, covering tracks, and introductory digital forensics and anti-forensics concepts. Each module includes hands-on exercises to reinforce learning in a safe, virtual lab context.
By the end of the course, participants will understand the ethical and legal boundaries of penetration testing, apply fundamental reconnaissance and exploitation techniques, and recognise common vulnerabilities in systems and web applications.
