Introduction to Cybersecurity targets jobseekers and employees looking to reskill and find relevant career opportunities in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in Ireland. This is one of the 7 courses offered via the Cisco Networking Academy skills and career building platform offering free opportunities and online courses for citizens in Ireland, and ICT Skillnet Ireland - a member of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition.
Details and objectives of the course
The online course requires no prerequisite technological knowledge and is free of charge (participants need to register for the course via an easy-to-fill, online form). Only Irish citizens, or international citizens residing in Ireland can benefit from the programme. With total duration of 15 hours, it provides learners with an overview of the basics of cybersecurity, including the most common online threats, risks, and vulnerabilities and why they can be challenging for private companies, public institutions, individuals, and even governments. The training also puts relevant cybersecurity information in the context of development of other emerging technologies, such as robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT), in order to convey the need for advanced network and cyber skills in a world with billions of connected devices. Learners also have an opportunity to discover insight on privacy concerns as well as tips and advice on ways to protecting one's digital footprint and stay safe when browsing or working online.
The course has a strong practical focus and aims to open the door for learners, and especially jobseekers, to a potential career in technology. It provides participants with a range of use cases, good practices and cybersecurity applications from different sectors to provide an overview of the most common techniques, deployed by businesses to keep data secure.
