The University of Bologna is considered to be the oldest university in the Western world. Its history is intertwined with that of the great names of science and literature and it is a keystone and a point of reference for European culture. Currently the University is made up of 32 Departments and 5 Schools and 12 Research and Training Centres. There are a number of cutting-edge programs on new technologies and digital specialties.
The University of Bologna is also partner or a wide number of EU funded projects: 350 EU-funded research projects as part of H2020 and 49 as part of other European initiatives, more than 190 PRIN projects, i.e. Research Projects of National Interest, funded by MIUR (Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research) and more than 285 projects funded by the Emilia-Romagna Regional Government.
From the University of Bologna 37 spin-offs and 12 startup companies have been created, all accredited, and 520 patent titles.
