National Coalitions

Following its integration with the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) in January 2025, the eSkills Malta Foundation’s mission has been further strengthened within MDIA’s broader mandate of fostering digital innovation, literacy, and skills development. This integration ensures that digital skills, reskilling, and upskilling programs will be implemented more holistically and strategically, aligning with Malta’s evolving digital priorities.

MDIA will continue to implement the successful mandate and initiatives of the eSkills Malta Foundation, but now within a wider strategy that also includes the Maltese Digital Innovation Hub, namely DiHubMT. This approach will allow for a more effective response to industry needs regarding digital skills, ensuring that Malta’s workforce is equipped with the right competencies to excel in an increasingly digital economy.

This integration also presents a strategic opportunity to enhance efficiency and coordination in the development of digital skills in Malta. Given the growing importance of digital literacy and AI-related skills, MDIA will play a central role in ensuring that the workforce is prepared for the demands of the digital economy. The EU Artificial Intelligence Act highlights the need for nations to build AI literacy, and MDIA, with its primary role in Malta’s digital innovation landscape, will spearhead initiatives in this area.

By incorporating digital literacy and competency-building initiatives directly into MDIA’s innovation agenda, Malta can leverage its position as a leader in digital skills development. The integration of digital skills development within MDIA’s mandate creates opportunities to further embed digital literacy and skilling into national innovation policies, ensuring a future-ready workforce.

Ultimately, this integration reaffirms Malta’s commitment to prioritizing digital skills development as part of its national economic agenda. Through these enhanced functions, MDIA will play a pivotal role in equipping Malta’s workforce with the skills necessary to thrive in the digital economy.
