European Initiatives

The European Training Foundation is a European Union agency that helps transition and developing countries harness the potential of their human capital through the reform of education, training and labour market systems, and in the context of the EU's external relations policy. Based in Turin, Italy, the ETF has been operational since 1994.

The European Training Foundation uses a range of evidence-based methodologies to support existing training and vocational education systems and contribute to the sustainable development of the digital and abour market. Initiatives and projects include: 

  • Creating new learning: exploring how good practices in education and vocational education and cn be replicated, transferred and sustained. 
  • 'Skills for Enterprise Development': an initiative which focuses on business practices and organisational engagement when it comes to skills development. 
  • 'Skills Lab' : an action, launched in 2020, to promote regular and in-depth analysis on changing skills demand throughout the organisation's partner countries. 

The European Training Foundation also runs and coordinates a Network Centre of Excellence, bringing together organisations in the vocational sector which are leaders when it comes to innovation in education and training. Other initiatives by the foundation include campaigns on the future of work and the sustainable development of digital skills.
