Ivan Skvarča, Primary School offers general primary education. The school has two branch schools. There are 599 pupils, 61 teachers and 28 non-teaching staff.
Over the years, our school has won numerous projects and titles, which are an important part of our value system. We are an Eco-School, a Cultural School, a Healthy School, an UNESCO School. We have collaborated with the Institute of Education in the projects Raising Digital Competence, Teaching in the 21st Century, Networking for the Quality of Kindergartens and Schools, and
Climate change in the objectives and content of educational institutions. We are also involved in the School for Headteachers. In recent years we successfully implemented two Erasmus Ka1 projects: Modern School and Nature as a Learning Environment. Our first project was CLIL – working as a team English teacher and teachers of other school subjects are providing combined knowledge for our pupils. We are currently partners of CŠOD in the Erasmus project Teaching Outside. We participate in eTwinning projects. We are working to bring modern ways of teaching into the classroom, such as project work, STEAM, storyline, authentic tasks, formative monitoring. We look for different ways to motivate children and use digital tools. Some of our teachers are members of reforming and developing teams of National Education Institute Slovenia. We are also currently participating in the national project called Digitrajni učitelj (Teacher using digital competence to teach sustainability). The project aims to increase the use of digital tools in the classroom - in accordance with learning objectives. Our teachers are also involved in developing the content for this project and giving lectures to other teachers.
Teachers at our school are therefore regularly trained, networking and looking for new teaching methods. Erasmus KA1 project Modern School, which we completed in the summer, was dedicated to the professional development of the teacher as a modern educator. A teacher who brings innovation into the classroom, who engages the classroom through teaching children, motivates them and encourages the development of modern competences. The project has had a tremendous impact on our school's performance. All teachers have tried out modern ways of teaching, brought them into the classroom and transferred knowledge to their pupils. The use of different approaches and the digital competences of everyone in the school have increased significantly, which we have also tested with the Selfie tool
In February, we submitted a new Eramus KA1 project. We believe that it is projects that drive schools and encourage teachers to educate - and education opens horizons. With the fact that artificial intelligence and digital tools are being developed practically every day, we know that teachers also need to be constantly educated and up to date if we want our children to be there too. That's why we will use the project to provide teachers and students with new knowledge in this field. We would like to learn how to use digital tools at a higher level. We would also like to include the basics of programming, coding and robotics.
Our school is also participating in the project of the Fund for Fair Transition for Zasavje region. In this project we will bring together schools from all over Zasavje and create a place, classroom where teachers will exchange ideas and borrow equipment for digital teaching.
Our school is well known for its success in chemistry, which is a testament to our children's high level of chemistry and science competences. We have a special programme for gifted pupils, where they learn through research and experimental methods.
We are also well known for our musical Rock Ivančki, which has raised money for the school fund. The musical was an example of innovative integration of different skills and competences, while at the same time the collaboration of all pupils, teachers and other staff members was recognised at national level. We also made a video promoting care for the environment and nature as part of this project. We performed it at the Presidential Palace and won the Children's Face of the Year award - for our push towards sustainability.
Our vision is: We will provide a high-quality education to ensure an adequate level of and a sense of security and satisfaction for our pupils.
