Presidency of Council of Ministers - Department for Public Administration

The Department for Public Administration (DePA) is a division of the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for public sector modernization and reform policies. It was set up in 1983 to meet the need to modernize the Italian public administration. Its tasks also include support to the Minister for Public Administration in carrying out the functions transferred to him/her by the Prime Minister.

DePA supports regulatory and legislative innovation and monitors its implementation. 

Thanks to its steering function it promotes and assists public sector transformation processes, actions to strengthen administrative capacity, the identification and dissemination of national and international good practices. 

It is committed towards implementing the vision of a modern public administration which promotes the wellbeing of the community through innovation and by enhancing the human, social and economic capital of the country.

The Office for the administrative innovation, training and skills’ development (UISC) is involved in guiding and coordinating initivatives of human capital development and training. Since 2022, the Office defines and supervises the interventions of up-skilling and re-skilling of civil servants promoted by the National Recovery and Resiliece Plan (2021-2026), that have a key role in the process of modernization of public administration.
