University of Bari Aldo Moro - Department of Research and Innovation for Humanities

The University of Bari Aldo Moro (UNIBA) is an education and training provider established in 1924, and it is made up of 24 departments active in every basic and industrial field of research that offer several degree and post-degree courses. Among the many activities, the University together with its Department of Research and Innovation for Humanities (DIRIUM) is committed to education and training on classical, modern, and contemporary studies, digital culture, and digital cultural heritage both in its curricular classes - e.g the curricular course in Archives and Libraries - and in the training activities of its innovative laboratories, Digital Multimedia Lab “Unknown Heritage” and BaLab. Both the laboratories promote and sustain contamination and exchange of knowledge, involving youth in the training programs on new digital methodologies and technologies for cultural heritage, archives and on the creation of Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI), encouraging cultural, social, and economic growth of youth, preparing them to face the digital challenges of labor market.

Among several different activities in the Humanities, the DIRIUM promotes and coordinates the research and training on digital humanities and digital innovation applied to cultural heritage, and most of all to libraries and digital libraries, joining also international, national, and regional projects. The DIRIUM collaborates with several stakeholders in international and national research and education projects on cultural heritage addressed to high and VET schools, aimed to the creation of new digital vocational competencies in the cultural heritage sector. Among the others, the University is a beneficiary in national PON, Reti di Laboratori, PRIN, FIRB, in international CORDIS, H2020, educational Erasmus+, LLP-Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus, TEMPUS IV, LLP-Leonardo and Jean Monnet, and cooperation programs IPA, Interreg IIIA Italy-Greece, ENPIMED. International activities are relevant and promoted by several agreements of cultural collaboration with European, American, and Chinese universities.
