Cybersecurity platform for children in Latvia
The cybersecurity platform for children is a social initiative that offers free digital safety education resources for children aged 4-7 years. The online platform digitaladrosiba.lv was developed by the technology company Tet in cooperation with the Latvian Safer Internet Centre.
It offers educational materials, creative exercises and interactive activities to strengthen digital security skills for children, parents and educators, with a particular focus on the youngest internet users.
The platform aims to raise children’s awareness of safe and responsible use of the internet from an early age, while providing support to educators and parents with practical, easy-to-use learning materials. The resource is aimed at children at pre-school and primary school age, as well as adults involved in the development of digital literacy of children.
The platform offers a variety of educational series and learning materials, including interactive videos, worksheets, exercises and creative activities. The content of the school is created in cooperation with the popular and beloved image of children a bear called Ričijs Rū, which helps to attract children's attention and significantly promotes their interest, engagement and positive attitude towards the topic of digital security. Particular attention is paid to the "Ričijs Rū and the Internet" video series, which explains the basic principles of digital security in a child-friendly and engaging way.
Why is this a good practice?
Cybersecurity platform Digitaladrosiba.lv addresses children aged 4–7 and involves parents, educators and educational institutions, indirectly reaching thousands of families across Latvia. In total, Ričijs Rū songs have been listened to more than 2.2 million times, while in 2024, social media and influencer content reached 559,100 people. Visits to the Cybersecurity platform increased by 263%. The preschool competition received 162 applications from all over Latvia, while media publications and stories reached 211,150 people.
The resource is free of charge and freely accessible to everyone interested. The materials are designed to be easily integrated into the learning process, from pre-schools and schools to extracurricular activities or family conversations at home. The platform combines both theoretical information and practical tasks that stimulate discussion and active participation.
Digitaladrosiba.lv offers a structured and age-appropriate approach to digital security education, promoting children's knowledge and skills for safe online behaviour. The resource serves as a good basis for the development of digital literacy and can be used as an entry point for further learning activities in the field of digital security.
This initiative has received the annual Latvian ICT prize "Platinum Mouse Award 2025" in the category "Best Cybersecurity Initiative".
