Online conference on “How Artificial Intelligence can change our jobs and what we need to do for it”

Virtual Live

An online conference will be held on 20 July 2023 at 15.30-17.00, focusing on job quality, prejudices, changing skills needs, legislation and social dialogue.

The 2023 edition of the OECD Economic Forecast places particular emphasis on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the labour market. In some areas, the results of the advancement of AI are now blurred from those of humans. These rapid developments, coupled with a reduction in the cost of producing and adopting these new technologies, suggest that OECD economies may be on the bottom of an AI revolution, which could radically change the workplace. AI offers many potential benefits, but there are also significant risks that need to be urgently addressed. Policies and social dialogue can play a key role in reducing these risks, but without stifling the benefits. However, this requires better evidence, and the 2023 edition of the OECD Employment Perspectives contributes to this goal.

The following topics will be discussed at this conference:

Quality of work: AI can reduce cumbersome and dangerous tasks, but could also lead to more intense, higher rhythm of work environments, with more intrusive employee monitoring and management processes.

Bias: impact on recruitment and jobs for people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Changing skills needs: what will be the role of employers, but also of formal education to ensure that workers have the right skills?

Legislation: whether and how existing legislation on discrimination, data protection and workers’ rights is implemented and what additional measures may be needed.

Social dialogue: how the speed of AI implementation can keep pace with the changes for workers
