mAigov – The “Digital Assistant” IA of gov.gr at the service of citizens

A milestone in the digital transformation of Greece is the first AI “Digital Assistant -“mAigov” launched today at gov.gr, to further facilitate citizens’ daily lives, simplifying and accelerating their interaction with the public sector. Launched by the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance, the digital assistant will also contribute to the greater familiarisation of the average citizen with gov.gr and the online provision of services by the state, which is part of the wider digital transition to the 21st century economy.

MAigov is launched in a pilot “Beta” mode, as with all AI applications, computing systems need time to learn, while evolving on the basis of user input data. This period makes it possible to improve the application based on the needs and responsiveness of users. The chatbot was designed using cutting-edge technologies based on artificial intelligence and cloud computing models and was implemented in accordance with Microsoft Responsible AI Standard (Microsoft Responsible AI Standard) ensuring, among other things, transparency, equality and respect for user privacy and the protection of personal data (GDPR).

A first look on the AI assistant

Citizens can chat with the “Digital Assistant” both from their mobile phone and from their computer. They submit their question in natural language, writing or vocals, so that the “Digital Assistant” helps them to identify in a simple and friendly way the service they are looking for, while at the end of the “chat” they have the ability to evaluate the application. The search is carried out in the – until today – 1,610 services of gov.gr and the 3,270 administrative procedures of the National Register of Administrative Procedures “MITOS”.  Please note that the model has reasoning and responds on the basis of the data recorded. It takes into account the initial question and keeps the conversation in mind during the session, ensuring the optimal experience for each user.

MAigov Beta currently provides the opportunity to serve up to 240 conversations in Greek per minute. The interaction time of each citizen with the system shall not exceed 5 minutes per session. In order to ensure a good experience for the end-user and the availability of the service for as many citizens as possible, especially in the first period where increased interest is expected, the mAigov system includes a specialised queueing mechanism. Once the maximum number of simultaneous users is reached, the next one is queued until it can be served.
