Become a DevOps Smart Cities Professional (MOOC)
The Smart DevOps MOOC dives deep into the subject of smart cities, and their evolution in Europe. Organised by experts of the Erasmus+ Sector Skills project (DevOps Competences for Smart Cities), the aim of the course is to chart a path to professional development in smart cities. Smart cities are not a just a concept or a dream of the future. It is a sector that is very dynamic and vibrant and has seen an impressive growth and increasing offers of promising employability prospects over the last years.
To pilot and implement smart cities in Europe, current and future staff in municipalities, need to undergo proper training. Regional municipalities are laying down the foundations for Smart Cities in the future, ultimately growing into Smart Cities themselves. This is why the DevOps competence methodology takes into account the specific IT skills and knowledge needed to manage smart cities, translating innovation into reality. One of the main project’s objectives is to define new job profiles, for those who plan to work as smart city professionals, such as Smart City Planner, IT Manager, or IT Officer.
Why this MOOC?
The DevOps Competences for Smart Cities MOOC (Smart DevOps MOOC) was developed to take on this challenge and offer high quality educational course that will enable the participants to develop and acquire essential competencies needed to tackle the challenges of managing and evolving of smart cities. In this MOOC, participants will:
- Be introduced to state-of-the-art curricula developed and delivered by experts under high standards of quality assurance
- Encounter 15 modules delivering transferrable and digital skills for Smart City professionals
- Find a flexible weekly workload and schedule and receive personalised support by experts in the field
- Discover, meet, connect and network with like-minded people from all over Europe
- Receive a certification in accordance with the European and national qualification frameworks and the European credit system for vocational education
- Build further upon successful completion towards more specialised training for Smart City Planner, Smart City ΙΤ Manager and Smart City IT Officer.
While the MOOC ran from 2020 to 2021 and registration is closed, its materials and results are available entirely online, free of charge. There are no prerequisites to taking this course: no prior DevOps experience is necessary.
A participant successfully completes a module if they have a grade of 60% or higher in the assessment test(s) of the module. An assessment test has multiple choice questions and can be taken twice. Those who complete all courses successfully will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will qualify for a second round of free, targeted and specialised training.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this MOOC, participants will be able to describe the ways in which software is designed and delivered and the differences with previous fields of thought in this area. They will also be able to discuss how this influences its development and deployment cycles and give an overview of what a smart city ecosystem entails (platforms, governance, business models and financial management). Finally, they will improve their knowledge about key new technologies, such as Internet of Things, cloud computing, data analytics and others.
