E-Learning on Digital Agriculture

Agriculture has also been affected by the digital revolution, and not just being adapted to new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). This online five-week course designed by the Open Learning Campus (OLC) of World Bank Group, will guide participants to the main concepts and applications of Digital Agricultural Technologies (DATs).

According to ICRISAT (International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics), digital agriculture is defined as “ICT and data ecosystems to support the development and delivery of timely, targeted information and services to make farming profitable and sustainable while delivering safe nutritious and affordable food for all.” DATs are are innovative technologies that enable farmers and agribusiness entrepreneurs to increase their productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness, facilitating their access to markets.

During this course participants will discover the potential impact of these technologies, the range of DATs available, as well as practical used cases. The course will introduce learners to different agriculture data platforms already available, encouraging them to discover the scope and utility of the open data platforms for analytics and intelligence in agriculture. By following the course participants will gain awareness of the forward-looking technologies and their scope in agriculture – artificial intelligence, remote sensing, crowdsourcing, and big data analytics.

Students will be required to engage in discussion forums with their peers and complete quizzes throughout the course. The course is entirely online and can be followed at your own speed, for a duration of about 5 weeks with an estimated effort of 2-3 hours per week.
