Federal Chancellery of Austria

The Federal Chancellery serves as an office building for the Federal Chancellor and other members of the government who meet regularly at the meetings of the Council of Ministers. The employees of the Federal Chancellery form an essential aid apparatus for the members of the government.
Seven sections of the Federal Chancellery deal with topics such as integration, women and equality, EU and international affairs, constitutional service, family and youth, as well as digitalisation and e-government.
The department also includes the following services: the Austrian State Archives, the Bar Association for Equal Treatment and the Communications Authority Austria. Employees of the Federal Chancellery also work at the Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU in Brussels. Furthermore, Statistics Austria and Wiener Zeitung GmbH are to be assigned to the department.
Section VII Digitalisation and e-Government
The agendas of Section VII were adopted by the Federal Ministry of Finance on the basis of the Federal Ministry of Finance 2024, Federal Law Gazette I No 44/2024 on 1 May 2024. Section VII coordinates and accelerates the state-wide digital transformation in Austria. The focus is on the benefits that digitalisation offers for society, business and administration.
The section works with experts on essential foundations and initiatives in the field of digitalisation and e-government. These include the development and coordination of a digitalisation strategy, an artificial intelligence strategy for a future-proof handling of new technologies and a data strategy for a modern understanding of data. Innovative digital platforms such as “oesterreich.gv.at” or the mobile app “Digital Office” or the company service portal (USP) simplify official channels and make government services more accessible around the clock. The digital skills offensive will work on the systematic development of basic competencies for citizens and the qualification of IT experts. Section VII also implements and coordinates cross-divisional IT projects and IT consolidation in the federal government. It represents Austria’s interests in the EU and international ICT and e-government-relevant bodies.
