European Initiatives

EIT Digital is a European educational and funding initiative, which drives forward innovation in technology and entrepreneurial education and training. Strategically tailored to address skills and capabilities required to work with emerging technologies, EIT Digital's topics range from artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT) to cyber and network security and innovation in technology for all. Established in 2010 under the European Institute of Technology (EIT), EIT Digital has a special focus on innovating and advancing the digital transformation throughout the EU member states. At the same time, the organisation supports businesses, companies, individuals and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), who want to learn more about thriving in the increasingly digital environment and the right technical skills to foster the digital transformation of European economy.

EIT Digital's network encompasses more than 200 pan-European research centres, companies, businesses and SMEs, start-ups, information and communication technology (ICT) professionals, R&D (research and development) cross-border collaborations, as well as individual entrepreneurs. Through this broad network, EIT Digital combines efficient and secure use of technology with an expanded talent pool of professionals with technical skills. In an open innovation setting, participating entities are provided with trainings, advice, and support in redesigning business and operational processes and introducing technological innovation within organisational strategy. Through a focus on emerging technologies, EIT Digital also directly contributes to the increased uptake, development and deployment of advanced technologies, stimulating market growth and technological sector development.

EIT Digital creates a wide range of opportunities for training and upskilling in the field of digital technology and innovation. This includes the provision of support through open courses and professional programmes, targeting a broad range of the European population - from beginner-level opportunities for individuals, to professional master's programmes leading to formal qualifications, and business-oriented training support. EIT Digital also strengthens the overall European knowledge base by making technical learning content by authoritative sources available and accessible to all.
