European Initiatives

The European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) initiative is part of the Digital Europe Programme. EDIHs function as one-stop shops for companies, businesses and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), enabling them to respond to digital challenges in a more coherent way, and increasing their competitiveness. EDIHs target emerging technology awareness and capacity-building, enhancing the uptake and deployment of AI (Artificial Intelligence), HPC (high performance computing), and cybersecurity for the public and private sector alike.

To achieve this, EDIHs support companies and SMEs through improved access to digital technologies, technical expertise, and the possibility to test tools and technologies before they invest in them. EDIHs provide a wide range of other services with a business focus: financial advice, innovative trainings technological trainings, skills development, and other resources designed to prepare companies to face - and reap the benefits of the digital transformation. Operating on national and EU level, EDIHs provide further support to national Digital Innovation Hubs, increasing their capacity to deliver projects and result with broader impact and value. Finally, EDIHs also strengthen the overall digital and innovation ecosystem by promoting networking across the various hubs as well as enabling knowledge-building, knowledge-transfer, and expertise.

The initial network will be comprised by hubs selected by the EU countries. A first restricted call for EDIHs is launched in 2021, to enable selected EDIHs to start their operation in 2022.
