Digital and Information agency

In 2023, a single centre of expertise was established to manage and plan the digitisation of the public administration: Digital and Information Agency (DIA). As the central authority of the state administration, it has legal competences that enable it to effectively manage the digitisation of the state and specific digitisation and IT projects.

The DIA sets standards, implements a uniform methodology and streamlines project management of digitisation. It improves central coordination and data sharing services. The agency includes so-called competence centres, which focus on the sustainability of IT systems, their development and, in particular, the sharing of expertise between different government institutions. It brings together IT experts who are ready to help authorities, ministries and other state institutions with digitisation projects. Last but not least, the agency also supports the training of civil servants in digitisation and new technologies.

Digital Transformation also addresses the issue of the independence of the digitalisation agenda from the current political constellation. The DIA is established by law, has supra-ministerial status and is independent of the management of ministries or other central administrative authorities. In this respect, the DIA is inspired by the way the National Cyber Security Authority operates.
