Good Practices

The Co-coders initiative came from the idea that everyone must have equal access to digital competences. The program stimulates curiosity, knowledge-sharing, and builds on existing skills to develop them further. Connecting like-minded people together is an underlying theme of the program, and contributes to ensuring access to help and support for all. The Danish initiative is an online platform making coding accessible and fun for everyone.

Co-coders in a nutshell

With a varied selection of coding exercises, the platform offers a unique opportunity for both beginners and more experienced programmers. It is also suitable for those, who are interested in coding, but think it is too expensive and time-consuming to take on a full course.

Co-coders was started by Lise Bach Lystlund and Ida Christine Andersen in 2017, when both women realised they lacked a community of like-minded people where one could be geek about coding and technology. In the years that followed, both women set up Co-coders, initially as social nights, where women gathered to code, followed by short coding classes with a focus on inclusivity.

Today, Co-Coders has expanded into a community of people from all backgrounds and digital competence levels - from absolute beginners and technology enthusiasts, to digital experts and ICT professionals. The community can play with and produce blog content, such as articles on new technologies and trends, or inspiring stories from digital professionals and programmers. They can also help to compile a Tech-Danish Dictionary, which explains buzzwords and technical concepts in an easy-to-understand language.

Why is this a good practice?

Digitalisation, automation and technology are the future. This means that the demand for IT-related skills is at all times high, and only bound to go further up. To meet this demand, we need to break down prejudices and create curiosity about technology to attract diverse profiles to this field. Co-coders is grounded in the belief that communication, done in an inclusive and easy-to-understand language, stimulates knowledge-sharing across profiles and disciplines, and brings people together so they can co-create digital solutions and exchange ideas.

One of the main benefits of Co-coders is that it is a platform for all. Whether you want to learn coding as part of your education, your work, you want to update your skills, or just want to learn coding of pure interest, you can find exercises that suit your digital competence level and interest. Finally, Co-coders also offers the opportunity to get personalised feedback and support from coaches and mentors – a great way to improve one’s skills and get feedback from experts in the field.

At a time when coding is becoming even more important in both business and society in general, Co-coders is a valuable resource for everyone who wants to learn this skill. With its wide range of exercises, interactive functions and personal feedback, this platform is the perfect way to start coding and programming.
