Good Practices

Since 2015, the Ventspils Digital Centre, in cooperation with the municipality of Ventspils, has been organising an annual competition “Ventspils IT Challenge”. Its aim is to raise the interest of students in information and communication technologies and to promote them among pupils as a sector of perspective for careers, curatives and future learning. The competition tests knowledge and skills in the use of creative technologies for Baltic students in grades 1 to 12.

The idea of the contest is to enable students to use technology in different life-circumstances, as well as to demonstrate their skills by applying a wide range of skills to different challenges.

Results

The competition has traditionally been organised in two rounds in the autumn and the themes of the contest differ from one year to the next. Remotely, students deal with the tasks developed by the jury, which are evaluated and invited to the final of 10 teams from Latvia in the age group 1-4 and 16 teams from all Baltic States in each of the age groups 5-7, 8-9 and 10-12. The final is traditionally organised face-to-face in Ventspils as a 2-day event, not only through a competition, but also with the opportunity to discover the city and take part in master classes. Travel and subsistence costs are covered for participants. Cash Prize Fund: EUR 15 000.

More information on the competition is available here.
