Establishment of 13 innovation centres in each Regional Directorate of Education in the country
The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports has announced the establishment of thirteen Innovation Centres (ICs), one in each Regional Directorate of Education in the country. The Centres are addressed will start operating from the new school year 2025-2026, constituting a strategic investment for the transition of Greek education to the digital and innovative era.
Connecting education with technology, science and creativity
Innovation Centres aremodern hubs for education, innovation and cutting-edge technology, targeting both primary and secondary education. Their mission is to strengthen the link between the educational process and technology, science and creativity.
- They offer pupils and teachers in the country the opportunity to participate in experiential workshops and educational programmes that make use of advanced technologies, enhancing their skills, capacity for research, and empowering them both intellectually and scientifically.
- They aim to enhance creativity, 21st century skills, STEM, digital literacy, green development and interdisciplinary learning.
- They integrate the use of cutting-edge technologies such as robotics, extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Create an integrated knowledge ecosystem that integrates and interconnects schools, research institutes, universities, local communities and European education and innovation networks
The operation of the Innovation Centres takes place in modern, properly equipped spaces, which have been granted by local bodies, municipalities or universities. The staffing is done by highly qualified teachers, who will be responsible for the implementation of the educational programs. Pedagogical planning and scientific supervision of the Centres shall be ensured by the Computer Technology Institute and Diophantus Publications, following the agreement of the Institute for Educational Policy.

The creation of Innovation Centres is a strategic educational investment for the future of the country, enhancing educational equality, the digital transformation of Greek education, promoting equality in access to technological education and encouraging a new model of participatory learning that connects the school community with research, technology and the knowledge society.

The action is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan ‘Greece 2.0’ and is co-financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
