Gozo Tech Whiz Summer School

The Tech Whiz Summer School, launched in the Gozo region of Malta for the first time in 2024, is an innovative programme aimed at children aged 6-12. Designed to foster creative abilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Innovation, this initiative helps prepare young minds for future career paths in various sectors.
Structure of the training program
The summer school runs for six weeks, from 23 July 2024 to 6 September 2024, excluding the week starting 12 August 2024. Applicants are divided into three age groups: 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12, ensuring that the curriculum is tailored to each child’s stage of development. The programme consists of 12 contact hours spread over six weeks, with two-hour sessions per week.
The Tech Whiz Summer School covers four main topics intended to inspire and educate the future innovators of tomorrow:
- Robotics (4 hours): This module introduces children to the basics of robotics, and teaches them how to build and program simple robots. It fosters problem-solving skills and logical thinking, and provides a practical approach to learning.
- Codification (4 hours): In this segment, children learn the fundamentals of coding. By engaging in interactive and fun coding activities, they develop a solid foundation in programming concepts that are crucial in the digital age.
- Artificial Intelligence (2 hours): This part of the programme offers an introduction to AI, explaining how it works and its applications. Children gain insight into the technology that shapes the future, and spark their interest in this advanced field.
- YouTube/Video Production (2 hours): This session teaches children the basics of video production, from planning and production to filming and editing. It encourages creativity and helps them understand the power of digital media.
