Privacy Enhancing Technologies - SPECTRO

The course 'Privacy Enhancing Technologies', taught by Mate Gyarmati (ELTE Faculty of Informatics) will cover the main privacy concerns and how organizations collect data. This course can be taken by students interested in learning the most important privacy-enhancing technologies and their advantages and drawbacks. Students will have a good understanding of when and which privacy technologies to use.

Course outline 

There are 7 lectures in the course.

  • Introduction to Privacy: The lecture introduces you to privacy and its dangers.
  • Anonymization and De-identification techniques: The lecture presents the basic anonymization techniques and some general attacks.
  • Differential Privacy: The third lecture teaches you a very important and widely used technique, differential privacy.
  • Secure Aggregation and Secure Shuffling: The fourth lecture presents two techniques to aggregate data from clients.
  • Secret sharing and secure multiparty computation: The fifth lecture shows how to privately share a secret and compute functions for multiple participants.
  • Homomorphic Encryption: The sixth lecture teaches you how to outsource computation.
  • Signal and Tor: The final lecture presents two implemented anonymization protocols.
