Tallinn University of Technology Master of Science in Cybersecurity

About the degree
This jointly-taught degree by the Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) and the University of Tartu aims to train specialists for high-end technical roles such as security analyst, digital forensic expert or for more managerial roles such as team leaders or technology officers. Completing this programme prepares graduates to enter the workforce or follow further studies at the doctoral level with TalTech's Information and Communication Technology PhD programme. Students who successfully complete this programme will get two degrees - one from the Tallinn University of Technology and one from the University of Tartu.
The full-time study programme spans over two years and is fully taught in English. Successfully completing the programme confers 120 ECTS credits to students. Students are offered three possible options of specialisation, namely, cybersecurity, digital forensics, and cryptography.
Study programme
Students will follow a general studies programme that covers information technology, entrepreneurship and /or Estonian language and culture. Alongside this is a core studies component will equip students with core cyber security knowledge on management, technology, as well as human and legal aspects. Students will then opt for a specialisation in either cybersecurity, digital forensics, or cryptography. Students can also choose elective courses in line with their interests or specialisation. Finally, students will have to complete a graduate thesis.
Cybersecurity specialisation
Students will be able to choose from various options that allow them to specialise in either organisational aspects or technological ones. For example, organisational aspects will focus on law, organisation, psychology, standards and so on. Whereas technological aspects will focus on networking, attach/defence technology and cryptography. This specialisation is concentrated in Tallinn.
Digital forensics specialisation
Students choosing this specialisation will learn to recover and investigate material found on digital devices often related to computer crime. This specialisation is concentrated in Tallinn.
Cryptography specialisation
Students selecting this specialisation will learn how to keep data secure and ensure current solutions to keep data safe is still effective to prevent attacks and theft. This specialisation is concentrated in Tartu.
Requirements
Prospective students must submit their application in line with TalTech's admission process. This will be scored with a maximum of 20 points and those who receive a minimum of 10 points on their application will be admitted to the programme. Below are the requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in IT, ICT or Economics. Degrees in other fields are accepted only if the applicant has at least one year of professional experience in IT. Applicants must have at least 60% of the highest possible CGPA in order to qualify to study at Tallinn University of Technology.
- Candidates who have not obtained a full Bachelor's degree in the EU, EFTA or OECD member states must upload their score report of the GRE General Test with the following threshold scores:
- Verbal reasoning: 145 or higher
- Quantitative reasoning: 150 or higher
- Analytical writing: 3.0 or higher
- Motivation letter
- Online lab where candidates must score 5 or more points
- Online interview
