In the 2024 edition of the Digital Decade report, Sweden has achieved 66.4% basic digital skills coverage, compared to the EU average of 55.6%. This puts Sweden at 83% of the overall target for the EU 2030 goal, which aims to have 80% of the EU population possessing at least basic digital skills.

According to the Digital Decade report 2024, Sweden performs better than the EU average in both digital skills indicators. The percentage of ICT specialists in employment has surpassed the EU average, increasing/decreasing from 8.6% to 8.7% (EU average - 4.8%).

Sweden's digitalization strategy, adopted in 2017, aims to position the country as a frontrunner in digital transformation. Additional strategies include AI and data strategies. The National Agency for Education has proposed a new digitalization strategy for the school system (2023-2027) to enhance equivalence in education. 

Under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, Sweden allocates EUR 3.3 billion to address digital challenges and expand education opportunities. The annual event 'Digitalidag' brings together stakeholders to encourage participation in digital development. The Digital Skills Sweden Initiative analyzes the shortage of ICT professionals and proposes measures to promote digital skills, such as advancing education, fostering cooperation, and improving data availability..
