Introduction to location data interoperability - DIS4SME

The ‘Introduction to location data interoperability’ course will provide SME managers, owners, technicians, and job seekers with a comprehensive introduction to location data interoperability in the context of EU data policies. The course is offered as part of the DIS4SME, a European project aimed at delivering high-quality specialised training courses focused on location data interoperability in different areas. All the training material are produced by Epsilon Italia s.r.l. and is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license.
The programme offers two distinct learning paths: one tailored for managers and another for technicians.
- Managers will explore how to integrate location data into their business strategies and assess its role in driving digital transformation.
- Technicians will delve into the technical aspects, including implementing INSPIRE requirements, aligning with FAIR principles, and addressing challenges related to data spaces.
Course for managers
Designed for SME managers and business owners, this course introduces key concepts and the strategic importance of location data interoperability. Participants will gain an understanding of technological and non-technological developments within the EU data policies framework. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to integrate location data into their business operations and evaluate its impact on their organisation's digital transformation strategy.
This 5-hour course includes 9 lectures, each followed by 2-3 quizzes to reinforce learning. The training format consists of:

Course for technicians
Aimed at technicians and job seekers, this course provides a technical deep dive into location data interoperability. Participants will analyse the impact of INSPIRE requirements and recommendations on spatial data infrastructure (SDI) components, including metadata, data, and services. Additionally, the course covers compliance with the High-Value Datasets Regulation, alignment with FAIR data management principles, and approaches to overcoming data space challenges. By the end, learners will be equipped to apply geospatial standards and best practices to enable interoperability.
This 7-hour long course includes 8 lectures, each followed by 2-3 quizzes to reinforce learning. The training format consists of:
