Master in Human Centred Artificial Intelligence (HCAIM)

Single offer
The word HCAIM

The Master “Human Centred Artificial Intelligence” (HCAIM) is a new higher education programme funded by the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), and was developed by a Consortium of three excellence centres, three SMEs and four Universities. The partnership brings together professionals from the world of academia and companies with considerable records of interest in the human-centered and ethical aspects of AI.

Aspiring Master students will be able to register for the Master in one of the 4 Universities, which are the Technological University of Dublin, the HU University of Applied Sciences of Utrecht, the University of Naples “Federico II”  and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

Aims and objectives

AI systems can used to automatically determine bank loan eligibility, for recognition of dangerous situations through image processing, for assessing medical needs. However, the use of AI also carries challenges, from biased implementations based on faulty data, to losing understanding and control over complex systems. How do we ensure that Artificial Intelligence is used for the common good? In the M.Sc. Human Centered AI the focus is to learn how to build and apply AI, and how to deal with the societal choices that come with it.

Learning outcomes

The MSc Programme has been built to train professionals in the field as socially-responsible and ethically aware AI architects. In particular,  these architects pay attention to the responsible application of AI, in line with the vision of the European Union.
The final qualifications and the structure of the master’s programme have been drawn up and validated, in terms of content, desired competence level and orientation, by the professional field, the Advisory Board and researchers. The final qualifications are deliberately based on the international specifications in e-CF (CEN, 2018), EDISON (EDISON Community Initiative, 2018) and ICT Ethics (EU ICT Ethics, 2020), in order to maintain the link with the international requirements specified in EQF (European Commission, 2008). The level used as a guide is level 4 of e-CF (equivalent to EQF and NLQF level 7).

More information and requirements

The minimum entry requirement for standard entrants to the programme is a 2:2 (GPA 2.5 or equivalent), in a Bachelor of Science in Computing (Level 8) or a cognate discipline or equivalent. Candidates not attaining this standard level must achieve an acceptable standard for progression by other means approved by QQI. All applicants must have competence in spoken and written English. Candidates may be interviewed to determine eligibility.

The programme begins every year in September, with application deadlines varying depending on the University. For more information on application deadlines, visit the individual university websites.
