Microcredential advanced data analytics and forecasting - DigiAdvance
In an information society like the one we live in, statistics play an increasingly fundamental role, enabling the collection, organization, analysis and interpretation of large volumes of data. In fact, statistics is present in everyday life in different areas such as: a) in decision-making, whether by government agencies, companies or others; b) in scientific research, supporting the design and evaluation of scientific experiments; c) in planning and forecasting, with statistical models (machine learning, time series, etc.) that enable the forecasting of economic, meteorological, demographic and other factors, contributing to better planning of future actions.
The integration of statistics, machine learning tools and time series analysis is clearly transforming society by providing powerful tools that enable more accurate forecasts, more informed decisions and the automation of complex processes, driving advances in science, technology and social well-being.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion, participants will have learned to
- Perform an exploratory data analysis considering the following aspects: data pre- processing, calculation of sample measures, data visualization (one-dimensional and multidimensional);
- Perform dimensionality reduction for visualization purposes as well as for building statistical prediction models;
- Apply clustering methodologies to identify groups and subgroups in the data;
- Distinguish between supervised and unsupervised learning problems and, with this, identify the set of techniques/algorithms appropriate for each situation;
- Adequately apply the main machine learning techniques;
- Perform an exploratory analysis of the main sample characteristics of the time series and apply appropriate procedures in order to obtain a stationary series;
- Select the most appropriate model to the data and apply prediction methods, using the indicated software.
DigiAdvance courses aim to advance the knowledge and skills of SME leaders, managers, employees and job seekers in key digital technologies. This course assessment is Blended and at daytime or after work. Participants receive a certificate of achievement at the end of the course.
