Practical Applications and Programming of Industrial Robots - MERIT Short Course Series
The MERIT project, co-funded by the European Union under the Digital Europe Programme, connects universities, research centres, and industry partners to promote digital transformation through advanced education. The project’s aim is to strengthen digital skills in Europe by offering both master’s programmes and flexible short-term training opportunities.
Within this framework, Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) presents the Practical Applications and Programming of Industrial Robots short course. The course introduces the core principles of industrial robotics and gives participants hands-on experience in robot programming and automation design.
Course Overview
This MOOC focuses on the real-world use of industrial robots in smart manufacturing environments. Participants will learn the fundamentals of robot kinematics, safety, and cell design. Using ABB RobotStudio software, they will simulate and program virtual robots, plan efficient workflows, and test production scenarios digitally.
The course also explores how robotics integrates with digital twins, IoT systems, and AI-driven process optimisation—key pillars of Industry 5.0. By combining theory and practical simulation, the course prepares participants for careers in automation, robotics engineering, and smart factory management.
