HCAIM - AI Compliance, Legality and Humanity

The HCAIM (Human-Centered AI Master) program includes a comprehensive module on ethical focus: compliance, legality, and humanity, as part of Evaluation (Module C). This phase emphasizes understanding and applying ethical, professional, and legal aspects of AI development, particularly focusing on EU and international legislation, human rights, and data management.

The lesson plan on Ethical Focus: Compliance, Legality, Humanity combines theoretical lectures and interactive sessions. Key areas covered include an overview of ethical, professional, and legal aspects of HCAI applications. Lectures and interactive sessions explore data challenges related to regulations like the EU GDPR, US COPPA, and HIPAA, and how these impact AI solutions. EU human rights legislation and proposals for AI regulation are examined through case studies and practical assessments, providing students with a deep understanding of the strengths and limitations of existing laws.

Additionally, the program addresses data management, audit, and assessment. Lectures cover topics such as data security, compliance, data lineage, governance, and stewardship. Practical sessions focus on the roles and interactions between data management and AI teams, investigating data lineage challenges and their potential impact on AI teams.

This module aims to equip students with the skills to navigate the complex legal and ethical landscape of AI development responsibly. For more information, students can visit the HCAIM consortium’s homepage.
