Web Security Fundamentals MOOC
This Web Security Fundamentals MOOC, created by KU Leuven, Belgium's highest ranking university, offers an overview on the foundational elements of network and web security.
The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) introduces learners to web applications and basic principles of network security. It targets people with already some knowledge of information technology (IT), interested in upskilling further. Although no prerequisite knowledge in the field is required, learners with a basic understanding of programming languages and web applications, especially in the context of HTML, HTTP, or Javascript.
Over the course of 5 weeks, participants understand basic underlying security principles online and receive a foundational overview of the most common threats and how they affect web applications. Learners also find out how to protect themselves against malicious attacks and receive practical tips and advice on building better and more secured software applications. In addition, good practices in web applications are highlighted throughout the course, prompting participants to reflect on their individual context and draw lessons learned from the experience of others.
The course is archived, but its materials, together with other KU Leuven courses can be accessed for free through the Edx learning platform. The average commitment required by each learner is around 4 to 6 hours each week, and the entire course can be completed in less than 25 hours.
